UNDERSTANDING YOUR ADHD CHILD

A 5-week group coaching programme for parents of children with ADHD on Tuesday evenings · Online via Zoom · Small group of 4–6 parents · Starting 21st May · £197 · Payment plan available

You know or suspect your child has ADHD. But do you understand why they do what they do? You've probably read the leaflets. You've searched the internet at midnight. You've tried the strategies people suggest. And yet, the meltdowns still happen. The homework battles still happen. The exhaustion still happens.

And underneath all of it, a question keeps surfacing:

"Why does my child do that?"

The answer, the real answer, changes everything. Because when you truly understand why your child behaves the way they do, you stop fighting against their brain and start working with it. The frustration softens. The confidence grows. The whole dynamic in your home begins to shift.

That's what Understanding Your ADHD Child is designed to give you.

This programme is for you if…

You have a child who has been diagnosed with, or you suspect has, ADHD, and you're not sure how to parent them effectively

You feel like you're constantly getting it wrong, even though you're trying your hardest

You're exhausted by the daily battles and desperately want things to feel easier

You've tried strategies you've found online and they haven't worked — and you want to understand why

You want to feel confident, calm, and equipped — not just surviving, but genuinely thriving alongside your child

You'd love to connect with other parents who truly understand what your family life looks like

What you'll gain over five weeks

By the end of the programme, you will:

Understand why your child behaves the way they do — and feel genuinely compassionate rather than frustrated

Know how to respond to meltdowns, resistance, and big emotions in ways that actually help

Have practical strategies that work with your child's ADHD brain, not against it

Feel less alone — surrounded by a small group of parents who truly get it

Be able to advocate confidently for your child at school and beyond

Have a clearer sense of how to look after yourself in the midst of it all

How the programme works

The programme runs over 6 weeks in total, with a planned week off during the May half-term (week of 26th May). This means you have 5 live sessions on Tuesday evenings via Zoom, plus a natural mid-point break to practise what you've learned before we pick back up in June.

Week 1 — Understanding your child's ADHD brain The foundations — why the ADHD brain works differently, what executive function really means, and why understanding this changes everything.

Week 2 — Emotional regulation — theirs and yours Why children with ADHD feel emotions more intensely, what's happening in the brain during a meltdown, and how your own calm is one of the most powerful tools you have.

Week 3 — Routines, structure and reducing friction How to build routines that work with the ADHD brain, reduce daily battles, and create a home environment where your child — and you — can breathe.

Week 4 — School, homework and advocating for your child Navigating the school system, understanding your child's rights, what to say to teachers, and how to approach homework without destroying your evenings.

.

Week 5 — You — the parent behind it all Parental burnout, self-compassion, and what it means to look after yourself. Celebrating how far you've come — and what comes next.

About Petra

I'm Petra Earnshaw, an ADHD Life Coach working exclusively with parents of children with ADHD.

But my connection to ADHD goes much deeper than my professional work.

I have ADHD myself, and I wasn't diagnosed until I was 52. For years, I struggled academically. But the struggles went far deeper than that. ADHD affected my friendships, my emotional regulation, and my ability to respond to things without feeling overwhelmed. I experienced Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), responding intensely to things that seemed like small issues to others.

Looking back, I can see how much I was masking, trying to be who I thought I should be rather than who I actually was.

That's why I'm so passionate about helping parents recognise these signs in their own children, especially girls, who are so often overlooked. Girls with ADHD are less likely to present as hyperactive, and they're often better at masking their struggles. Instead, they might be daydreaming, quiet, and appearing to cope, which means their ADHD can go completely unnoticed.

When I work with parents, I bring not just my coaching training and experience, but a genuine, personal understanding of what it means to live with an ADHD brain, and how transformative it is when you finally understand why.

I am also proud to be an advocate for Find the ADHD Girls, an organisation working to raise awareness of how ADHD presents differently in girls. Because the signs often look different to those in boys, girls are frequently missed or misdiagnosed, and Find the ADHD Girls is working to change that, to ensure all girls are diagnosed by the age of eight.

If you're a parent who has ever felt alone, confused, or exhausted by the journey, I want you to know that I truly get it. And I'm here to help.

Frequently asked questions

What if I can't make every session? Life happens. I completely understand. If you miss a session, I'll make sure you're caught up before the next one. I do ask that you commit to attending as many sessions as you can, as the group dynamic is part of what makes this work.

My child hasn't been formally diagnosed — can I still join? Yes. If your child has suspected ADHD or traits that strongly suggest it, you are very welcome. You don't need a formal diagnosis to benefit from understanding how the ADHD brain works.

Is this therapy? No, this is coaching, which is different. Coaching is forward-focused and action-oriented. We're not working through past trauma; we're building understanding, skills, and confidence for the here and now. If you feel you need therapeutic support, I'm happy to signpost you to the right resources.

What age are the children? Parents of children of any age are welcome, from primary school age through to teenagers. The core principles of understanding the ADHD brain apply across all ages.

What happens during the half-term break? The programme includes a planned break during the May half-term week (26th May). There's no session that week. It's built in, so you're not juggling the programme with half-term chaos at home. You'll come back for week 2 ready to dive deeper.

Is there a payment plan? Yes! You can pay in full (£197) or spread the cost over two payments of £98.50, taken 28 days apart.

What if I have questions between sessions? You'll have access to a private community space where you can share wins, ask questions, and connect with the other parents in your group between sessions. I check in regularly, so you're never left waiting long for support.
